Affirmations for my writing | #61
Dipping in and out of 'taking my writing seriously' has led me to working with affirmations for my writing
Monday was bittersweet.
It was the closing of a chapter: my last day of full-time work at DataCamp and ‘work’ in general for an undefined period as defined by me.
It marked the opening of another chapter: the first day of a writing mentoring week and the beginning of yet another deeper unfolding.
I have been ignoring the call to go beyond my bi-weekly Substack of varying quality, towards a cadence of consistent output and quality. And I am changing that.
In the first writing workshop, we were asked to share six barriers holding us back from our writing AND we were invited to create affirmations for them.
The barriers holding me back vary from cynicism, fear of a starving artist life, the need to focus elsewhere, a belief that writing is just my side dish and not the main course, fear of failure and fear of ambition. Also I somehow cringe at calling myself a writer even though I’ve been published and paid for my story.
I wrote affirmations in response to each barrier.
Here are my affirmations:
My writing matters
I channel my earnest energy into my writing.
I take my writing seriously.
I focus on my writing.
My writing is deserving of my time.
My writing inspires others.
My writing is worth it.
I celebrate myself as a writer.
If you are creating and are feeling like you are in a similar space, you can replace ‘writing’ with your artistic medium.
